Overview

Eduroam (education roaming) is a global Wi-Fi network service that allows students, researchers, and staff at participating institutions to securely access the internet when visiting other participating institutions.

Additional Information

This panel provides further insights about Eduroam.

Global Network: Eduroam spans across universities, research institutions, and other organizations worldwide. If your home institution is part of the eduroam network, you can use Wi-Fi at any other participating location without needing to get a special guest account.

Secure Access: Eduroam uses WPA2-Enterprise (or WPA3 in newer implementations) encryption, which provides a high level of security for users. It also uses EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) for authenticating users.

Single Sign-On: You authenticate using your home institution’s credentials (typically your institutional email address and password). Once authenticated, you gain access to the internet as though you were at your home institution.

Convenience: It saves time and hassle since you don’t need to request guest Wi-Fi access each time you visit a new location within the network.

Interoperability: Because it’s a standardized system, it works seamlessly across different institutions and countries, provided they are part of the eduroam network.
